Project 5 - the CD Cover

Ok, so this is the 5th project for the art course. Design a CD cover for an existing artist or make one up! I did a bit of both.

I've opted for David Bowie as I've been a fan of his for many years. I also like Andy Warhol. David Bowie knew Andy Warhol and wrote a song with his name as the title, he also played Andy Warhol in a film in 1996. Taking all this into consideration I've used an Andy Warhol painting style for the cover and have taken the name of the fictitious song from the lyrics of 'Andy Warhol' by David Bowie...See how it all ties in

I started this with a photo of Bowie, scanned it and put it into B&W, played with contrast etc to reduce it to the most basic form and used this as the base for the images.

It's done on Bristol paper with ink and acrylic paint and measures 12 x12 cms - CD box size!

I haven't studied the whole fonts, typesetting, composition and materials stuff yet so this is a pretty basic attempt. I'm sure the exercises will get more challenging and will require a much higher standerd of work as time goes on!
